A method of viewing and manipulating multi-dimensional data using an HTML-compliant client supporting a graphical user interface, a browser, and the execution of a context-dependent software program within the browser. The method begins as an encoding of multi-dimensional data onto an HTML page. In response to loading the page in the browser, a viewing program, referred to on the page, is also loaded. The viewing program is launched by the browser whereupon it reads the multi-dimensional data from the HTML page and presents it to the user.
