MULTI-FOLD ACTIVATED CARBON YARNS ABSTRACT An activated carbon yarn comprising a plurality of carbon containing yarns, intertwined together to produce a multi- fold yarn which is then subjected to an activation process is disclosed. Preferably, the carbon containing yarns are oxidized acrylic yarns. The tenacity of the activated carbon yarns ranges from about 0.1 to about 4 g/d with greater than 1 g/d being preferred. The CC14 sorptivity ranges from about 25 to about 140% by weight, based on the weight of activated carbon yarn, with greater than 60% being preferred.
