An optical device for the dynamic compensation of chromatic dispersion allowing a wide range of dispersion correction levels is disclosed. It is based on the combination of a series of optical structures each including a waveguide and a Bragg grating provided therein. The Bragg gratings have an intrinsic chirp allowing the relative delay of wavelength components in order to compensate the chromatic dispersion components. The various arrangement of the grating orientations results in different ranges of dispersion compensation levels, depending on the relative accordance of the chirp period of each grating component. Dynamic chromatic dispersion compensation is obtained by tuning the optical structure by means of a grating control unit coupled to the fiber grating.
