A laminated support pad (10) including layers (12, 14) of material having different densities in which voids (18, 20, 22) are formed to extend through at least partial cross sections of at least two adjacent layers to form regions (A, B, C) of the pad having different support characteristics determined by the placement and extent of the voids in the laminated layers. Lamination of a layer of high density material (14) on top of a layer of relatively low density material (12) produces a relatively firm pad (10) having varying degrees of firmness dependent upon the placement and extent of the voids (18, 20, 22). The pad can be cut to conform to conventional mattress sizes, and the regions (A, B, C) formed in areas of the pad which correspond to the weight bearing requirements for optimum support of the humam body in prone positions.
L'invention concerne un rembourrage de soutien (10) fait de couches superposées (12, 14) de matériau ayant des densités différentes dans lesquelles on a ménagé des poches (18, 20, 22). Celles-ci, qui occupent une partie, au moins, du profil transversal d'au moins deux couches contiguës, délimitent des régions (A, B, C) et, partant, confèrent au rembourrage différentes spécificités de soutien en fonction de leur emplacement et de leur dimension. Le fait de superposer deux couches, l'une, constituée d'un matériau très dense (14) et l'autre, d'un matériau relativement tendre (12) permet d'obtenir un rembourrage d'une compacité relative (10) dont la fermeté dépend, à des degrés variables, de l'emplacement et de la dimension des poches (18, 20, 22). Il est possible de tailler le rembourrage pour lui donner les dimensions d'un matelas classique tandis que des régions (A, B, C) seront constituées dans des zones du rembourrage qui correspondent aux exigences de charge permettant d'assurer un soutien optimal au corps humain en décubitus ventral.
