A multilayer absorbent composite is disclosed. This composite comprises a cover sheet, one or more transfer layers, one or more absorbent core layers, and a barrier back layer. The transfer layer or layers have Z-direction apertures penetrating through the entire layer. The aperture frequency is about 5 to 50 apertures per square inch and each aperture has a diameter of about 0.015 to 0.10 inches. These composites are used as feminine hygiene pads and related applications.
