A multi-media title editing apparatus has style creator, storage and interpreter. A title screen is defined in the style by using a set of display areas in which display methods for multi-media data elements are designated. The elements are selected using a user input device with a graphical user interface. A data comparator compares the data type defined by the style with the data type of the selected elements, and an indication is provided on the graphical user interface that a selected element can be displayed at a selected display area when the type of the element matches with the type defined by the style. A scenario for the title is stored, which consists of a series of time-based display commands, an element ID, a display attribute ID with designation of a display area, and action information by which the multi-media data element is to be displayed or not.
