ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A relatively simple, easy to clean heat exchanger for use in the flue of a fireplace or wood burning stove includes a cylindrical casing for replacing a flue section, bottom and top plates closing the casing to define a heat exchange chamber therein, a plurality of heat exchange tubes extending between aligned openings in the bottom and top plates for receiving hot combustion gases from the fireplace or stove, an inlet duct near the top end of the casing through which cold air is introduced into the heat exchange chamber for contact with the tubes, and an outlet duct near the bottom end of the casing for discharging heated air from the chamber into a room.
