A multi-planar volumetric display system (10) and method of operation generate volumetric three-dimensional images (34 and 56) using a multi-surface optical device (32) including a plurality of individual optical elements (36, 38, 40 and 42) ranged in an array; an image projector (20) for selectively projecting images on respective optical elements (36, 38, 40 and 42) to generate a first volumetric three-dimensional image (34) viewable in the multi-surface optical device (32); and a floating-image generator (54) for projecting the first volumetric three-dimensional image (34) to generate a second volumetric three- dimensional image (56) viewable as floating in space at a location separate from the multi-surface optical device (32). Anti-aliasing adjusts the display of voxels (24, 26, 28 and 30) in a transition between optical elements (36, 38, 40 and 42), such that color values of the voxels (24, 26, 28 and 30) are modified as a function of the distance of the voxels (24, 26, 28 and 30) from the optical elements (36, 38, 40 and 42), to generate a smooth transition between portions of the volumetric three-dimensional image (44, 46, 48 and 50).
L'invention porte: sur un système (10) de présentation d'images volumétriques sur plusieurs plans et son mode de fonctionnement créant des images tridimensionnelles volumétriques (34 et 56) à l'aide d'un dispositif optique (32) à plusieurs surfaces comportant plusieurs éléments optiques (36, 38, 40 et 42) séparés disposés en réseau; sur un projecteur (20) projetant sélectivement des images sur des éléments optiques respectifs (36, 38, 40 et 42) pour créer une première image (34) volumétrique tridimensionnelle visible dans le dispositif optique (32) à plusieurs surfaces; et sur un générateur d'images flottantes (54) projetant une première image (34) volumétrique tridimensionnelle pour créer une deuxième image (56) volumétrique tridimensionnelle apparaissant comme flottant dans l'espace en un emplacement séparé du dispositif optique (32) à plusieurs surfaces. Un système anti-crénelage ajuste la présentation des voxels (24, 26, 28 et 30) au niveau des transitions entre les éléments optiques (36, 38, 40 et 42) en en modifiant les indices de couleur en fonction de la distance les séparant des éléments optiques (36, 38, 40 et 42); d'où une transition douce entre les différentes parties de l'image (44, 46, 48 et 50).
