Apparatus for pulling and lifting an element such as a buried rock or stump comprises a rectangular frame for mounting on a forward end of lifting arms of a vehicle so as to project forwardly therefrom. A pair of first jaws are fixedly mounted on the frame in the form of plates connected between a top bar and a bottom bar so as to project forwardly and downwardly from the frame. A second jaw is mounted between the first jaws on a cross pivot shaft for pivotal movement relative to the frame between a raised open position and a lowered closed position so that the second jaw co-operates with the first jaws in the closed position to squeeze the element therebetween.
