A stage adapter for mounting a circular sample holder on the stage of an inverted light microscope to allow sequential microscopic observation of metallography samples held in the sample holder without the necessity of removing the individual samples from the sample holder is disclosed. The stage adapter comprises two main elements, one attached to the center of the bottom surface of the circular sample holder and the other attached to the top surface of the microscope stage. The two main elements are rotatably engageable, allowing the circular sample holder to be detachably mounted on the microscope stage at a fixed position relative to the microscope lens. The stage adapter locates a sample fixed in the sample holder over the microscope lens and allows the sample holder to rotate axially, thus bringing each sample into position over the lens for viewing.
