Multi-speed fixed gear hub transmissions (108, 109, 248, 249) are provided for push rim wheelchairs (100). Push rim wheelchairs (100) having such transmissions are also provided. The hub transmission (108, 109, 248, 249) generally includes a hub driver (112), a hub (150) and a drive train (10), configured to transmit rotational force from the hub driver (112) to the hub (150). In some implementations, the drive train (10) transmits torque at each of at least three gear ratios, and defines at least three different torque transmission paths (40, 50, 60) between the hub driver (112) and the hub (150), each path defining a respective one of the gear ratios, and each of the transmission paths (40, 50, 60) including only rigid bodies (45, 65, 114, 116), each of the rigid bodies (45, 65, 114, 116) being configured to transmit torque in both forward and reverse rotational directions. In other implementations, the drive train (10) transmits rotational force at each of at least two gear ratios.
