Carbon dioxide is purified by processes employing NOx-rich sulfuric acid that can be formed by removal of SO2 from the carbon dioxide. The NOx is stripped or desorbed from the NOx-rich sulfuric acid. Futhermore, nitric acid and sulfuric acid are formed in the process.
