Processes for coating metal or polymeric substrates are provided which include the steps of: (a) applying a liquid basecoating composition to a surface of the substrate; (b) exposing the basecoating composition to air having a temperature ranging from about 10°C to about 50 °C for a period of at least about 5 minutes to volatilize at least a portion of volatile material from the liquid basecoating composition, the velocity of the air at a surface of the basecoating composition being less than about 0.5 meters per second; (c) applying infrared radiation and hot air simultaneously to the basecoating composition for a period of at least about 2 minutes, the velocity of the air at the surface of the basecoating composition being less than about 4 meters per second, the temperature of the metal substrate being increased at a rate ranging from about 0.4 °C per second to about 1.2 °C per second to achieve a peak substrate temperature ranging from about 120 °C to about 165 °C, such that a dried basecoat is formed upon the surface of the substrate; and (d) applying a powder topcoating composition over the dried basecoat.

L'invention concerne des procédés d'enduction de substrats métalliques ou polymères, qui consistent à: (a) appliquer une composition de couche primaire liquide sur une surface du substrat; (b) exposer la composition de couche primaire à l'air, à une température comprise entre environ 10 DEG C et environ 50 DEG C pendant au moins 5 minutes, de sorte qu'au moins une partie du matériau volatil se volatilise de la composition de couche primaire liquide, la vitesse de l'air à la surface de ladite composition étant inférieure à environ 0,5 mètre par seconde; (c) appliquer simultanément un rayonnement infrarouge et de l'air chaud sur la composition de couche primaire pendant au moins environ 2 minutes, la vitesse de l'air à la surface de ladite composition étant inférieure à environ 4 mètres par seconde, la température du substrat métallique augmentant à une vitesse comprise entre environ 0,4 DEG C par seconde et environ 1,2 DEG C par seconde, de sorte qu'une température de pointe du substrat de 120 DEG C à environ 165 DEG C soit atteinte, une couche primaire séchée étant ainsi formée sur la surface du substrat ; (d) appliquer une composition de couche de finition pulvérulente sur la couche primaire séchée.
