Abstract of the Disclosure This invention is directed to a multi-staged latex useful for improving the water whitening resistance of aqueous coating compositions. In particular, the multi-staged latex comprises from about 50 to about 95 percent by weight of at least one first polymer stage having a Tg from about 0°C to about -30°C and from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight of at least one second polymer stage having a Tg from about 0°C to about 80°C, and wherein a film formed from the multi- staged latex has improved water whitening resistance. The multi-staged latex of this invention may be used to formulate a variety of aqueous coating compositions, such as for example, sealers, renderings, caulks, sealants, adhesives, floor polishes, and the like. Also disclosed is a process for making the multi-staged latex.
