-37- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided a packaging machine in which a layer of fruit is loaded into a container at each of several stations in the machine. A mechanism is provided for feeding a layer of fruit into an assembly, nesting the fruit within the assembly, moving it into a loaded station, and subsequently lifting it from the nesting station and depositing it into a container located therebelow. Conveying mechanisms are provided for indexing the container to the various loading stations and if desired for providing a separator sheet between various layers.
