A nonwoven web is provided which can be readily converted to an apertured web by stretching. In its initial non-apertured state, the web comprises a plurality of multicomponent fibers comprising at least two thermoplastic polymer components arranged in at least first and second separate continuous structured domains. The polymer component of the first domain comprises polyethylene. Prior to stretch aperturing, the web has a peak elongation of at least 100 percent and is characterized by having a plurality of discrete, spaced-apart, frangible bond sites of polymer bonding the fibers to form a coherent extensible nonwoven web. The frangible bond sites are structured and arranged to readily rupture when subjected to tensile stress to form discrete, spaced-apart apertures in the nonwoven fabric. Aperturing the web tends to produce remnants of the bond site polymer at the edges of the apertures. The web has a total energy absorption in at least one of the machine direction or the cross-machine direction of at least 50 gcm/cm2.

L'invention concerne une toile non tissée qui peut être facilement convertie par extension en une toile à ouvertures. Dans son état initial non ouvert, la toile comprend une pluralité de fibres à multicomposants comportant au moins deux composants polymères thermoplastiques disposés en au moins une première et une deuxième zone, séparées et à structure continue. Le composant polymère de la première zone comporte du polyéthylène. Avant de s'ouvrir sous l'effet de l'extension, la toile présente une élongation maximum d'au moins 100 % et elle se caractérise par une pluralité de points de liaison polymères discrets, séparés et destructibles, liant les fibres pour en faire une toile non tissée, extensible et cohérente. Lesdits points de liaison destructibles sont structurés et disposés pour rompre aisément sous l'effet d'une contrainte de traction et former des ouvertures discrètes et séparées dans la toile non tissée. L'ouverture de la toile tend à produire des tirelles au niveau du polymère des points de liaison sur le bord des ouvertures. La toile a une absorption totale d'énergie d'au moins 50 gcm/cm?2¿ dans au moins une des directions de la machine ou dans le sens travers.
