A multifunctional monopolar/bipolar electrosurgery pencil is disclosed for use with an electrosurgery unit (ESU). The monopolar/bipolar electrosurgery pencil includes a bipolar electrode having an insulator sandwiched between an active electrode and a return electrode wherein the bipolar electrode is connected to a hand piece capable of alternately effectuating cutting and coagulation with the bipolar electrode. The monopolar/bipolar electrosurgery pencil is capable of functioning as both a monopolar and bipolar device and can be used for open and closed laparascopic and endoscopic procedures. Optional telescopic means for adjusting the length of the bipolar electrode is also provided as are means for smoke evacuation and suction/irrigation. The multifunctional telescopic monopolar/bipolar device can also be adopted for use with an ESU-argon beam coagulator.
La présente invention concerne un crayon électrochirurgical monopolaire/bipolaire à fonctions multiples utilisable avec un appareil d'électrochirurgie (ESU). Ce crayon comprend une électrode bipolaire munie d'un isolant pris en sandwich entre une électrode active et une électrode de retour. Cette électrode bipolaire est connectée à une pièce à main qui permet alternativement de couper et de coaguler avec ladite électrode. L'instrument fonctionne aussi bien en mode bipolaire que monopolaire et il peut être utilisé pour des laparoscopies et des endoscopies ouvertes ou fermées. Un système télescopique facultatif permettant d'ajuster la longueur de l'électrode bipolaire est également fourni, de même qu'un moyen d'évacuation de fumée, et un moyen d'aspiration/irrigation. L'instrument monopolaire/bipolaire télescopique à fonctions multiples peut également être utilisé avec un dispositif de coagulation à argon associé à un ESU.
