The present invention includes a catalyst that has at least four layers, (1) porous support, (2) buffer layer, (3) interfacial layer, and optionally (4) catalyst layer. The buffer layer provides a transition of thermal expansion coefficient from the porous support to the interfacial layer thereby reducing thermal expansion stress as the catalyst is heated to high operating temperatures. The method of the present invention for making the at least three layer catalyst has the steps of (1) selecting a porous support, (2) solution depositing an interfacial layer thereon, and optionally (3) depositing a catalyst material onto the interfacial layer; wherein the improvement comprises (4) depositing a buffer layer between the porous support and the interfacial layer.
L'invention concerne un catalyseur multicouche comportant au moins quatre couches, un support poreux (1), une couche tampon (2), une couche interfaciale (3) et, éventuellement, une couche catalytique (4). La couche tampon assure une transition de coefficient d'expansion thermique entre le support poreux et la couche interfaciale, ce qui permet de réduire la contrainte d'expansion thermique à mesure que le catalyseur est chauffé jusqu'à des températures élevées. Le procédé relatif à la fabrication d'un catalyseur comportant au moins trois couches consiste à: (1) choisir un support poreux, (2) déposer en solution une couche interfaciale sur ce support et, éventuellement, (3) déposer un matériau catalytique sur la couche interfaciale, l'amélioration consistant (4) à déposer une couche tampon qui s'intercale entre le support poreux et la couche interfaciale.
