A multilayered tubular packaging casing for pasty matter, in particular synthetic sausage casing, on a polyamide basis, is comprised of an outer layer based on aliphatic polyamide, aliphatic copolyamide or a polymer blend comprising at least one of these compounds; a central layer which is impermeable to water vapour and comprises a polyolefin and an adhesion-promoting component; and an inner layer which preferably is impermeable to oxygen and is based tin aliphatic and/or partially aromatic poly- amides and/or aliphatic and/or partially aromatic copolyamides. The casing can be stuffed with sausage meat in a tight and crease- free manner, without bulging or delamination of the individual layers. Due to improved water vapour barrier properties, scalded sausages surrounded by the casings can be stored at least eight weeks without substantial weight loss or crease formation. As a result of the improved oxygen barrier properties, discolouration of liverwurst-type stuffings is observed later than for casings previously known.
