ABSTRACT A multimagnification mode optical system for projecting an image from an object plane to an image plane including a viewing platen, a lens, at least one reflecting surface on each of the object side and image side of the lens, the lens being mounted to move from a first position providing a first magnification to a second position providing a second magnification by simultaneously rotating and translating about a sta- tionary lens shaft from said first position to said second position whereby the optical axis of the lens is also altered. In a specific application of the optical system the corner registration of the image at the image plane on a photosensitive surface mounted on a rotatable drum is maintained at both the first and second lens position.
