The present invention relates to a method and system for securing the delivery of multimedia information by a multimedia server to a user requesting the multimedia information over a switched network. The method is comprised of the steps of maintaining a database of user identification and corresponding authorization for receiving the multimedia information; and receiving identification information from the user at the multimedia server. The method also includes the steps of comparing at the multimedia server the received identification information with the user identification and corresponding authorization maintained on the database; and delivering the multimedia by the multimedia server information to the user only if the comparison indicates the user is authorized to receive the multimedia information. The system is comprised of a database of user identification and corresponding authorization for receiving the multimedia information. A unit is provided for receiving identification information of the user. A comparator is provided for comparing the received identification information with the user identification and corresponding authorization maintained on the database. A unit is provided for restricting the delivery of the requested multimedia information to the user if the comparison indicates that the user is not authorized to receive the multimedia information.
