Image ABSTRACT Building a conventional log home involves the use of full logs, and can require the use of heavy equipment or extended site labour over a period of days. Special construction techniques are required to compensate for settling and wastage due to imperfections in logs, which can be substantial. The end results are longer construction periods, higher construction and higher manufacturing costs. Highland Homes process of a panelized log wall system eliminates the need for heavy machinery and equipment, using panel sizes that can be erected manually. Wastage is kept to a minimum as imperfections are removed and the rest of the log is utilized. The panels design eliminates settling. The result is a quicker. more efficient building process which is cost efficient and provides a higher quality wood finish on site. The concept of standard panels enables production runs in the plant, producing hundreds of panels at a time, not tied to any particular home, greatly simplifying manufacturing.
