A gas-burning appliance with artifical logs, with the use of one or more solenoid valve(s) to control gas flow to various sections of the burner in a predetermined time interval sequence simulating the uneven and sporadic buning of wood. A single solenoid valve or a series of solenoid valves are placed in the gas supply line before the orifice and will control the control the gas flow to a designated section of one or more burner(s) within the primary heat exchange (firebox) The normally closed solenoid valve(s) will be opened for a predetermined time period and sequence with the use of a micro-processor or timers. Gas will then flow to a specific buner section or combination of buners in the primary heat exchanger (firebox) and ignite.
