A rotor assembly is provided for an electrical alternator for generating a potential when coupled to an internal combustion engine, wherein the electrical alternator includes a stator having coil windings, and the rotor assembly is supported for rotation relative to the stator. The rotor assembly includes a rotor shaft rotatably driven by the engine and having first and second shaft portions. The first and second shaft portions are constructed of different materials and are secured together against rotation relative to one another.
