A multiport isolator provides optical isolation between pairs of optical fibers (202, 204; 222, 224) so that light may pass from a first fiber (202, 204) to a second fiber (224, 222) of the pair, but not from the second fiber to the first fiber. The multiport isolator has first and second coupling modules (200, 220) to couple light from different fibers, and an isolator module (410) between the coupling modules to prevent light from passing from the second fiber to the first fiber of a fiber pair. Each coupling module (200, 220) comprises two focusing elements (206, 208; 226, 228) arranged such that the first focusing element (206, 226) direct the beams to intersect the module optical axis and the second focusing element (226, 228) parallelizes the light beams from the first focusing element. The isolator comprises a Faraday rotator (414) interposed between two birefringent plates (412, 416).

Un isolateur à accès multiple procure une isolation optique entre des paires de fibres optiques (202, 204 ; 222, 224) de telle façon que la lumière puisse passer d'une première fibre (202, 204) à une seconde fibre (224, 222) de la paire, mais non de la seconde fibre à la première fibre. L'isolateur à accès multiple présente un premier et un second modules de couplage (200, 220) pour coupler la lumière provenant des différentes fibres, et un module d'isolateur (410) entre les modules de couplage, en vue d'empêcher la lumière de passer de la seconde fibre à la première fibre d'une paire de fibres. Chaque module de couplage (200, 220) comprend deux éléments de focalisation (206, 208 ; 226, 228) agencés de façon que le premier élément de focalisation (206, 226) dirige les faisceaux en vue de leur intersection avec l'axe optique du module, cependant que le second élément de focalisation (226, 228) oriente les faisceaux lumineux parallèlement entre eux à partir du premier élément de focalisation. L'isolateur comprend un rotateur de Faraday (414) interposé entre deux plaquettes biréfringentes (412, 416).
