Abstract: The present invention relates to a signal envelope stretcher. The stretcher is comprised of a peak catching unit for following rising portions of all input signal and retaining a first output indicative of the peak magnitude of the input signal attained during a predetermined interval. A store and comparator is connected to receive and retain the output and a predetermined plurality of previous peak magnitudes corresponding to previous pre- determined intervals, the storing and comparing providing a second output indicative of the greater of the first output and each one of the previous peak magnitude, the second output serving to replace the previous peak magnitudes when greater as it is compared thereto. An output unit is connected to receive the first of the predetermined intervals. The output unit retains the second output corresponding to the previous first output occuring at the beginning of its corresponding predeter- mined interval for the duration of the predetermined interval while producing an output for the signal envelope stretcher corresponding to the greater of the stored second output and the first output.
