A wheelchair back assembly is provided which has a back plate held in position relative to upright wheelchair cane members by opposed independent mounting assemblies. The mounting assemblies include a support bar which carries a bracket attached to said back support plate. The assemblies further include universal cane clamp members hingedly attached to a pivot mechanism that allows for independent bi-lateral adjustment in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the seat of the wheelchair. The clamping member further includes a through bore, which seated on the spindle of a compression latch secured to the upright canes of a wheelchair. A pivotable lever acts as a latch member as it compresses elastomeric O-rings in order to latch the hinge in position relative to the spindle member and to provide for a resilient attachment. The lever also has a locking position to retain the lever in its latched position. The plate is further provided with lateral stabilizer members, which are adjustable in and out. It is provided as well as with a cushion and modesty shroud.

L'invention concerne un ensemble dossier de fauteuil roulant possédant une plaque de dossier maintenue en position par rapport à des éléments tige verticaux dudit fauteuil par des ensembles de montage indépendants opposés. Ces ensembles de montage comportent une barre de soutien portant un support fixé à ladite plaque de soutien du dos. Ces ensembles comportent également des éléments de préhension de tige universels fixés par des charnières à un mécanisme pivotant permettant un réglage indépendant bilatéral dans une direction transversale à l'axe longitudinal du siège du fauteuil roulant. L'élément de préhension comprend en outre un passage traversant se trouvant dans l'axe d'un verrou de compression fixé aux tiges verticales dudit fauteuil. Un levier pivotant sert d'élément de verrou, puisqu'il comprime des joints toriques élastomères afin de verrouiller la charnière dans une position relative à l'axe et d'assurer une fixation résistante. Le levier possède aussi une position de verrouillage destinée à retenir le levier dans sa position verrouillée. La plaque est enfin dotée d'élément latéraux stabilisateurs, pouvant être réglés vers l'intérieur et l'extérieur, ainsi que d'un coussin et d'une toile de modestie.
