A multipocket baby-carrying apron is used to safely and rapidly evacuate babies from a nursery in the event of an emergency. This apron comprises front and rear panels separated by a central hole through which the user passes his head and neck, the front and rear panels being attached together on both user's sides. A plurality of baby-receiving pockets are secured to the front face of the front panel, and are each provided with a triangular cushion disposed at the intersection between the vertical wall and bottom of the pocket to guide a baby being inserted toward a given position. A first belt embraces the baby's trunk to retain him in this position. The top opening of each pocket is covered by a flap to isolate the baby against smoke. A second belt fastened to the front panel is grasped by the user's hands to space the front panel apart from the user's thighs and/or knees. A handle enables pulling of the apron on the ground. A safety belt is also passed over and applied to the front face of the front panel for attaching the left and right sides of the rear panel together. Finally, a rope can be attached to descend the apron from a higher location to a lower location, a safety ring being provided to retain the rope to the apron.
