MULTIPOINT DATA COMMUNICATION SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A data communication system comprises a communi- cating medium and a plurality of transceivers connected to the medium. Each transceiver includes a transmitter for transmitting a signal onto the medium and a receiver for receiving a signal communicated on the medium by another transceiver. A collision detector is coupled to the trans- mitter and the receiver of each transceiver for generating a collision signal whenever a signal communicated on the medium by another transceiver is received by the receiver during the time the transmitter is transmitting a signal onto the communicating medium. Additionally, means connec- ted to each transceiver and responsive to the presence of the collision signal interrupts the transmission of a signal onto the medium by the transmitter. 1/2
