This invention relates to a method and system for synchronization in applications where the synchronization signal is severely disturbed and where the signal frequency and amplitude are variable. The system is based on a multirate phase-locked loop (PLL). With respect to the operation of the system, blocks in the proposed system operate at different sample rates and the sample rates are variable. The system sample rates are a multiple of the fundamental frequency of the input signal and they are forced to vary synchronously with the fundamental frequency through the system feedback action.
