An apparatus for separating magnetically responsive particles from a non magnetic test medium in which the magnetically responsive particles are suspended is disclosed herein. The separator includes an array (22) of containers (24), which hold the nonmagnetic test medium, on or more pins (28) disposed substantially within the test medium, and an external magnet (34) for producing a magnetic field within the test medium. The external magnet is proximate the pins so as to create magnetic flux lines, magnetizing the pins and creating a magnetic field substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pins thereof in the test medium.

L'invention concerne un appareil permettant de séparer des particules réagissant au magnétisme d'un milieu (échantillon) non magnétique dans lequel les particules réagissant au magnétisme sont en suspension. Le séparateur comprend un ensemble (22) de récipients (24) pour recevoir les échantillons non magnétiques à traiter, une ou plusieurs tiges courtes (28) venant se placer dans l'échantillon et un aimant externe (34) pour produire un champ magnétique dans les échantillons. L'aimant externe jouxte les tiges courtes de manière à produire des lignes de flux magnétique, à rendre les tiges courtes magnétiques et à créer dans les échantillons un champ magnétique sensiblement parallèle à l'axe longitudinal des tiges courtes.
