The present invention provides muscle-derived progenitor cells that show long-term survival following transplantation into body tissues and which can augment soft tissue following introduction (e.g. via injection, transplantation, or implantation) into a site of soft tissue. Also provided are methods of isolating muscle-derived progenitor cells, and methods of genetically modifying the cells for gene transfer therapy. The invention further provides methods of using compositions comprising muscle-derived progenitor cells for the augmentation and bulking of mammalian, including human, soft tissues in the treatment of various functional conditions, including malformation, injury, weakness, disease, or dysfunction. In particular, the present invention provides treatments and amelioration for urinary incontinence and other urinary tract pathologies.
L'invention concerne des cellules progénitrices musculaires qui présentent une survie prolongée après avoir été transplantées dans dans des tissus corporels, et qui permettent le développement d'un tissu mou après avoir été introduites (par exemple par injection, transplantation ou implantation) dans un site de tissu mou. L'invention concerne également des procédés d'isolation de cellules progénitrices musculaires et des procédés de modification génétique desdites cellules aux fins de thérapie par transfert de gènes. L'invention a également trait à des procédés d'utilisation de compositions contenant des cellules progénitrices musculaires et destinées à développer et étoffer des tissus mous de mammifères, et notamment d'êtres humains, dans le cadre du traitement de divers troubles fonctionnels et esthétiques, notamment de malformations, blessures, faiblesses, maladies ou dysfonctionnements. L'invention concerne en particulier des traitements et l'atténuation de l'incontinence urinaire et d'autres pathologies des voies urinaires.
