Novel recombinant allergens are disclosed. The allergens are non-naturally occuring mutants derived from naturally-occurring allergens. The overall .alpha.-carbon backbone tertiary structure is essentially preserved. Also disclosed are methods for preparing such recombinant allergens as well as uses thereof.
