A male sterile plant which is free from any undesirable character is constructed by expressing a barnase gene alone specifically in the anther. The barnase gene, which has been depressed by mutagenesis while sustaining its activity, is transferred into a plant and then expressed specifically in the anther to thereby efficiently give the aimed male sterile transformant.

Un végétal mâle-stérile exempt de tout caractère indésirable est construit par expression spécifique d'un seul gène de la barnase dans l'anthère. Ce gène de la barnase, qui a été déprimé par mutagenèse mais a conservé son activité, est transféré dans un végétal puis exprimé de manière spécifique dans l'anthère, ce qui permet d'obtenir efficacement le transformant mâle-stérile voulu.
