ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A muting circuit for a television receiver having a tuner for performing channel selection in accordance with channel selection operation, a detector circuit for detecting whether a video signal is present or not, a muting signal generator circuit supplied with an output from the detector circuit and an output from a terminal of the tuner at which a signal is obtained when the tuner selects a predetermined channel and producing a muting signal when a channel selection signal is obtained at the terminal but no output is delivered from the detector circuit, and a muting circuit inserted in a low frequency signal transmission path, in which the muting circuit is operated by the muting signal from the muting signal generator circuit to cut off or attenuate the transmission of a low frequency signal.
