In general, the invention is directed to methods for electrically stimulating transplanted biological material, such as transplanted cells, to improve the performance of the heart during systole. In particular, the invention is directed to devices and techniques for stimulating biological material transplanted in a myocardium of a heart during an ejection phase of a cardiac cycle. The transplanted biological material may include cells, such as skeletal myoblasts, precursor cells, endothelial cells, differentiated or undifferentiated stem cells, undifferentiated contractile cells, fibroblasts and genetically engineered cells. In general, stimulation of the transplanted biological material during the ejection phase of the cardiac cycle, when the aortic and pulmonary valves are open, provides hemodynamic assistance to the heart.
La présente invention concerne en général des procédés qui permettent de stimuler électriquement un matériau biologique transplanté, tel que des cellules transplantées, afin d'améliorer la performance du coeur au cours de la systole. En particulier, l'invention concerne des dispositifs et des procédés qui permettent de stimuler le matériau biologique transplanté dans le myocarde d'un coeur pendant la phase d'éjection du cycle cardiaque. Le matériau biologique transplanté peut comprendre des cellules, telles que des myoblastes squelettiques, des cellules précurseurs, des cellules endothéliales, des cellules souches différenciées ou non différenciées, des cellules contractiles non différenciées, des fibroblastes et des cellules génétiquement modifiées. En général, la stimulation du matériau biologique transplanté au cours de la phase d'éjection du cycle cardiaque, lorsque les valvules aortique et pulmonaire sont ouvertes, permet d'offrir une assistance hémodynamique au coeur.
