A B S T R A C T The invention is directed to a process for preparing N-(2-mercaptoethyl)alkanamides by reacting hydrogen sulfide with 2-H-2-oxazolines or 2-alkyl-2- -oxazolines. These prepared materials have utility as chemical intermediates, for example, all of them can be hydrolyzed with aqueous hydrogen chloride to prepare 2-mercaptoethylamine hydrochloride, which is useful when neutralized as a curing agent for epoxy resins, as an acid scavenger and as a pharmaceutical intermediate.
