ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to the novel compound N-[3-(1'-3"-Oxapentamethyleneamino-ethylideneamino)- 2,4,6-triiodobenzoyl]-.beta.-amino-.alpha.-methylpropionitrile, and a process for its preparation by reacting N-(3- amino-2,4,6-triiodobenzoyl)-.beta.-amino-.alpha.-methyl-propio- nitrile with N-acetylmorpholine in the presence of phosphorous oxychloride. This substance can advantageously be used for the preparation of N-[3-(1'-3"-oxapentamethylene- amino-ethylideneamino)-2,4,6-triiodobenzoyl]-.beta.-amino-.alpha.- methyl propionic acid by hydrolysis.
