ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein are N-acyl-N-naphthoylglycines and methods of their preparation. The N-acyl-N-naphthoylglycines are novel aldose reductase inhibitors useful for the treatment or prevention of diabetic complications. The N-acyl-N-naphthoylglycines have the following formula Image (I) wherein R1 is halogen or lower perfluoroalkoxy containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R2 is lower alkyl preferably containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms; X is -OH or -NH2, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein X is -OH.
