This invention relates to novel PDE,IV inhibitors having formula (I) where: R1 = H,C1-C6 alkyl; R2 = C3-C7 alkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl or C4,-C8 cycloalkylidene when Y is CH; R3 = (a), (b), (c), or (d); R4 H, OR5, NHR5, NHOH, NHNH2 or (e); R5 = H, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl, substituted aralkyl or (f); W = N or CH; X = CH2, O, S, or NH; Y = CH2, CH, O, S, or NH; Q = a bond or C=C; n = 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4; M = O, NOH or H2; Z = H or halogen; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. These compounds selectively inhibit PDE-IV preferentially and are thus expected to be safe antiasthmatic agents.
