(I) wherein X represents H, Cl, Br or a C1 - C4 alkyl group and Y is OH, OR or SR and a represents a C1 - C4 alkyl group, useful as intermediates in the preparation of o-(2,6-dichloroanilino)- phenyl acetic acid and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof which have pharmacological properties including antiinflammatory and analgesic effects.
