ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides an N-(hydroxy-methyl)-1- aminoalkane-1,1-diphosphonic acid or N,N-bis(hydroxy-methyl)-1- aminoalkane-1,1-diphosphonic acid having the general formula Image wherein R is hydrogen, or a CnH2n+1 oroup where n is 1 to 3 and R1 is hydrogen or CH2OH,or a water soluble salt thereof. The compounds are useful as stabilizers in peroxide containing bleaching liquors.
