Abstract of the Disclosure Imidazole compounds are obtained from the reaction of substituted imidazoles and epoxides of unsaturated fatty acid derivatives, including amides and esters, and unsaturated long chain hydrocarbons. The resulting imidazoles have formulae selected from Image and Image wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 represent a variety of specific groups. Solutions of the resulting imidazoles in water immiscible solvents are effective in removing metal cations such as copper, mercury, cobalt, lead and zinc from their solutions in water.
