ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE N,N-disubstituted alanine derivatives of the general formula: Image wherein: each X individually represents a fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom; n represents an integer of from 0 to 5 inclusive; R1 and R2 each separately are chosen from a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a phenyl group, a pyridyl group, an alkoxy group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a cyanoalkylthio group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylmoiety, an amino group, or a group of the formula -P(O)(O-alkyl)2, wherein each alkyl group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms; or R1 and R2 taken together represent an alkylene bridge containing 4 or 5 carbon atoms and herbicidal compositions containing them.
