ABSTRACT This invention concerns novel substituted amidine compounds, a pro- cess for their preparation, and composition thereof. The compounds correspond to the formula Image wherein R' and R" each independently represent C1-3 alkyl, and R represents Image Image or wherein X1 represents halo, and X2, X3, and X4 each represent halo, or hydro- gen, with the proviso that at least one of X3 and X4 represent halo, and pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof. The compounds have activity as antidepressants and antianxiety or calming agents.
