ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein are N-naphthoylglycines and methods of their preparation. The N-naphthoyl- glycines are novel aldose reductase inhibitors useful for the treatment or prevention of diabetic complications. The N-naphthoylglycines have the following formula Image (I) wherein R is halogen or lower alkoxy containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, trifluoroethoxy, phenoxy or phenyl- methoxy; X is =0 or =S; Y is-OH, -NH2 or -NHCO2CH2CH3.
