ABSTRACT N-phenylpyrazole derivatives of the formula:- Image (wherein each of the symbols R5 and R6, which may be the same or different, represents an alkyl or alkoxy radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, nitro, cyano or primary amino radical, or a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom, each of the symbols R7, R8 and R9, which may be the same or different, represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl or alkoxy radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, nitro, cyano or primary amino radical or a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom, or the symbols R5, R7, R8 and R9 each represents a hydrogen atom and the symbol R6 represents a trifluoromethoxy or trifluoromethyl radical, and the symbol R10 represents a cyano radical or substituted carbamoyl radical -CONHR11, wherein R11 represents a methyl or ethyl radical, with the proviso that when R10 is the cyano radical, with R5 and R6 are other than chlorine atoms when R7. R8 and R9 are hydrogen atoms, (ii) R5 is other than the methyl radical when R6 is a chlorine atom and R7, R8 and R9 are hydrogen atoms, (iii) R5 is other than a chlorine atom when R6 and R9 each represent a chlorine atom and R7 and R8 each represent a hydrogen atom and (iv) R5 is other than a nitro radical when R6 is a nitro radical and R7, R8 and R9 each represent a hydrogen atom) have been found to posses useful herbicidal properties. Herbicidal compositions containing such new N-phenylpyrazole derivatives are described and processes for their preparation are described and claimed.
