ABSTRACT N- Substituted nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds of general formula Image (I) [wherein R1 is hydrogen or acyl; R2 is hydrogen, halogen or a group of formula R1O, -NHSO2R7, -NHCOR8, NHCONHR8, -NHCH2C6H4-R9,-CN2OH. -CH2SO2R7, -CONHR8 or -CN (in which R7 18 C1-C4 alkyl, R8 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, and R9 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy optionally interrupted by an oxygen atom); R3 is hydrogen or halogen or a group of formula -R7 or -OR7; or R2 and R3 together are Image , Image or Image ; R4 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; R5 and R6 independently are hydrogen or methyl; n is 1 to 4; and Het is a group of formula Image , Image , Image , Image or Image (wherein R10 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, phenyl or pyridyl, R11 and R12 independently are hydrogen, chlorine, methyl or methoxy or together form a methylenedioxy group; X is nitrogen or Image ; and Z is Image or Image )] and acid addition salts thereof. The compounds have been found to exhibit broncholytic, spasmolytic, anti-allergic, uterine muscle relaxing, gastric secretion inhibiting and anti-depressive activities. The compounds may also be useful in the treatment of cardiovascular disturbances. Processes for the preparation of the compounds, and their use in pharmaceutical compositions, are described and exemplified.
