A nail spout comprises a longitudinally extending nail body having a pointed end and a head opposite the pointed end for receiving hammer blows in order to drive the nail body directly into the wood fibers of a tree. A series of circumferentially distributed grooves are defined at the periphery of the nail body and extend from a location spaced from the pointed end for collecting sap from the tree. An internal passage is defined in the nail body. The internal passage is in flow communication with the grooves and has an outlet adapted to be connected to a sap collection system.
