A B S T R A C T A device for releasably securing a badge or nameplate to a garment comprises a strip of magnetic material having a first surface, adapted for attachment to a badge or nameplate and a second surface opposed to said first surface and dimensioned to engage a magnet. The magnet is positioned inside a piece of textile fabric of a garment such that said magnet will magnetically adhere to said second surface and thereby grasp the fabric. The second surface is contoured whereby friction between the second surface and the fabric is enhanced. The invention also comprises badges or tags including, as integral parts, the strips described above, preferably with the contouring thereof being arranged in a rectangle.
